Memorabilia

Shelby believes that winning a Gold Medal carries with it a big responsibility to the young people and adults who might look up to such an accomplishment.

Even after over 60 years  the mystique of the Gold Medal is still alive, and most people will never have the opportunity to see or touch one.  In just about any setting in which he finds himself whether it be speaking at a church, holding a clinic, or kids just dropping by his home, he is always ready for them to have a personal view and touch of an Olympic Gold Medal.

For this reason Shelby has chosen to place his Gold Medal and all memorabilia at his high school in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  It will be on permanent loan to the high school through the Wilson Family Trust and will be there on display.  The Gold Medal will be the last item to be placed there upon his death.

If you happen to visit the high school you will also be able to view two life size statues of Doug Blubaugh and Shelby Wilson.  Shelby and Doug were teammates in high school and college at Oklahoma State, and finally on the 1960 Olympic Team where they both won Gold.

Shelby and Doug were teammates in high school and college at Oklahoma State, and finally on the 1960 Olympic Team where they both won Gold.  Ponca City and the wrestling Community is really proud of this  of this rare happening.

These statues are a result of the efforts of a number of people, but the man who had the vision and organized the project, was Jason Levit who was the wrestling coach at the time.  His vision was to honor
these two men for their accomplishment on the 50th anniversary of their winning the Olympics.  In 2022 Mr. Levit  is the Athletic Director at the high school and welcomes visitors.
